There are various bus services to Berwick and the train station at Berwick-upon-Tweed is served by LNER mainline trains TransPennine Express services as well as Cross Country services making us easy to reach from North, South and West and as well as an ideal base for day trips to Edinburgh or Newcastle which are less than 50 minutes away by train.
Northumberland National Park - covers over 400 square miles and is full of stunning views, rolling hills -The Cheviots – and winding valleys. There are 700 miles of footpaths and rights of way and permissive paths in this most magic of places.
In 635AD St Aidan founded his monastery here and brought Christianity to Northumberland. It has a haunting beauty with its Castle, history of Illuminated Gospels and terrible Viking massacre.
There is abundant wildlife and vegetation. Reached by causeway, open twice in 24hrs, it is waiting to be explored.
Renowned for its unspoilt beauty, treacherous rocks and headlands and miles and miles of sandy beaches. There are castles aplenty, pretty little fishing villages and the Grace Darling museum at Bamburgh. Boat trips to the Farne Islands nature reserves are to be had at Seahouses

Oil Mill Lane Cottage provides a top class, wonderful home from home holiday experience where you can retreat to an oasis of calm near Berwick’s historic old walls and Pier Road with its beautiful views out to the Tweed Estuary beaches. You are also within two minutes walking distance of Berwick’s main thoroughfares with easy access to the array of cafes, restaurants and bars that the town has to offer. Location could not be better and it’s also an easy walk from the rail station if you aren’t driving.
The cottage itself is spotlessly clean, bright, cosy and extremely spacious. The living room looks out onto the beautiful walled garden which offers two sitting areas which guests can use. We sat out here often during our stay as it’s quite the sun trap.
John has thought of everything that you could possibly need on a self catering break. The kitchen is large and fully equipped with all the things that you would have in your own kitchen (and more- there is even a pestle and mortar!) John himself is the consummate host, friendly, welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. He’s also very knowledgeable about the local area. I can’t wait to come back!
